When digital electronic music hardware and software is presenting us unlimited choices and options through a mass production industrial model, are we simply operators facing unlimited options? Or is there still room and possibility beyond such mass production model? Returning to the small scale family business model and the philosophy of “small is beautiful”, a group of advanced Circuit Benders have been designing and producing limited run of handmade electronic instruments of their own design.
Dmitry Morozov aka ::vtol::
They evolve directly from the “no rules” philosophy of Circuit Bending and insist on handcrafting creative chaos out of hardware limitation. Russia electronic artist ::vtol:: (Dmitry Morozov) is one of them. In Sound Friction No.1, he will be performing with his own handmade modular synthesizer system, demonstrating a new possibilities in electronic sound as well as generated visuals.
Synthesizer modules by ::vtol::, Astat (Left), Volfram
Using a collection of obscure handmade electronic instruments/devcies designed by famed sound artists/benders Folktek, BugBrand, Eric Archer and others, local Experimental Electro-Acoustic duo No One Pulse will be performing an improvisation set with ::vtol:: and his synthesizers as Bent Orchestra.
For those who are interested, few units of ::vtol::’s home built synthesizers are available to purchase at the show.
